OIL TANKS
How old is your oil tank? That is probably not something that you think about very often. Oil tanks do not last forever. Water will sink to the bottom of the oil and eat its way through the steel overtime. Tell your oil tank its time to go before it starts to leak! If you are unsure of the age of the tank call us to come out for an inspection and we can give a rough estimate.
BOILERS
Boilers come in two main types, forced hot water and steam boilers. In a forced hot water system, pressurized hot water is circulated through your house using one or more pumps. This heat is transferred to the room via baseboard, water radiators, radiant floor heating etc. In a Steam system, the boiler creates steam which flows through radiators in the house. Forced hot water boilers have a life span of around 20 years, but steam boilers do not last quite as long. It is important that you get your heating system inspected to plan ahead for future repairs.
FURNACES
Warm air furnaces, or forced hot air systems, blow air over a heat exchanger through the house via the ducts. This is a very comfortable, dry form of heat. One downside to forced hot air is that other means are necessary for heating potable water. The recommended life span for a warm air furnace is around 20 years. Over time the heat exchanger can burn out on a furnace so it is important to stay on top of routine maintenance.
